Procedure

Step 1 - Submit Online Application

Submit your application on the OCI Services Portal: https://ociservices.gov.in/onlineOCI/ and upload all the required documents listed below.

Step 2 - Book an Appointment

After successful submission of your online application, book an appointment for verification of uploaded documents against originals. The application is finalised only after in-person verification at the HCI, Wellington. Book appointment here:  https://www.hciwellington.gov.in/apt/

Please carry the following to your appointment:

  • Printout of duly filled Part A and Part B of the application generated from the OCI Portal. Part B (Declaration) must be signed by the applicant.
  • All original documents as listed below.

Documents Required

(To be uploaded online and carried in original to the HCI, Wellington for verification)

Please Note: All documents listed below must be uploaded on the OCI Portal at the time of online submission and carried in original to the HCI, Wellington at the time of the appointment. Applications will not be accepted if any requisite document is not uploaded or not produced in original.

  1. 1. Photograph of the applicant (See specifications below)
  2. 2. Declaration by the OCI Applicant — (Link to the form)
  3. 3. Voter ID Surrender (if applicable) — If the applicant previously held an Indian Voter ID, please follow the steps to surrender it online given below.
  4. 4. Current Passport — Original New Zealand / foreign passport of the applicant.
  5. 5. Foreign Citizenship Certificate — Original citizenship certificate of the applicant.
  6. 6. Cancelled Indian Passport — Original cancelled Indian passport (first and last page to be uploaded on the portal).
  7. 7. Surrender Certificate — Original Surrender Certificate of the Indian passport of the applicant -  https://www.hciwellington.gov.in/page/surrender-certificate-renunciation-of-indian-citizenship/ 
  8. 8. Payment Proof of Fee amounting to NZD 452/-. Visit Website https://www.hciwellington.gov.in/page/fee-payment/ 
  9. 9. Proof of Address: Proof of address must match with the present address as per application.
  10. 10. Self-addressed courier envelope with tracking facility, if you want to receive OCI by post. Separate envelopes are to be provided for multiple applications.
  11. 11. For OCI applicants Not applying on the basis of Indian Spouse/ Spouses OCI card category than select as NO in the Spouse Details column and fill the spouse details.
  12. 12. For OCI applicants applying on the basis of Indian Spouse/ Spouses OCI card category than select as Yes in the Spouse Details column and proceed with para 6E below. 

Photograph Specifications: The photograph uploaded with the application must meet the following requirements:

  • Square shape, size not less than 51 x 51 mm, with 80% face coverage 
  • Plain light-coloured background (not white), no border 
  • Front view, full face visible, head and shoulders centred in the frame 
  • Dimensions: minimum 200 x 200 pixels, maximum 900 x 900 pixels 
  • Format: JPEG / JPG only, maximum file size 200 KB

  1. iii. Steps to Surrender Your Voter ID Online (Form-7 Submission)
Applicant may surrender his/her Voter ID online by submitting Form-7 through the official website of the Election Commission of India (ECI). Follow the steps below:
Step 1: Search Your Voter Details
Enter your details to locate your voter record.
Step 2: Access Form-7
On the homepage, click on Form-7 to initiate the surrender process.
Step 3: Register/Login to Submit the Form
Create an account or log in using your credentials.
After logging in, fill out and submit Form-7 to request deletion or surrender of Voter ID.
    1. iv. If you held an Indian Passport but are unable to locate it:
    If you previously held an Indian passport but are unable to produce it, submit the documents below, as proof of Indian origin. The first three documents in the list are compulsory. Additional documents from the remainder of the list must also be submitted to support your case.
    Compulsory:
    1. Travel Summary — Obtained from New Zealand Immigration, confirming travel to New Zealand on an Indian passport. 
    2. Copy of Indian Passport . 
    3. Police Report — Copy of police report regarding the loss of the Indian passport. 
    Additional supporting documents (submit as many as applicable):
    1. Indian Domicile Certificate — Issued by a competent authority (District Magistrate, Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Executive Magistrate, etc.) 
    2. Indian Passport or OCI Card of parents / grandparents. 
    3. Indian Birth Certificate. 
    4. Indian Educational Certificates — Note: submission of more than one educational certificate will be considered as a single proof only. 
    5. Indian Marriage Certificate. 
    6. Aadhaar Card. 
    7. Indian Ration Card. 
    8. Indian Government Employment Record. 
    9. Indian Voter's Identity Card. 
    10. Agricultural Land Documents.
